I've got years and years of research on who exactly watches these shows, so when I buy them I know exactly who I'm reaching. David Stanger

If you are a long-time friend or business partner of DSA Baron and Baron Communications, you'll notice that our logo has changed to one with a bird theme. This new look is part of the on-going plan to create more synergy between our various DSA Network offices.

We're often asked "what's the story behind the bird?"

In November of 1985, while on a weekend getaway trip down the Oregon Coast, Mary and David Stanger, the owners of DSA Media, became fascinated with some of the colourful birds they saw while travelling - in particular a stellar jay. This led them to take what at first was a casual interest in birds, and one which over time grew into a full-fledged fascination for Mary.

When they started DSA in March of 1997, they needed a logo and it was Mary who came up with the idea of using a bird - a symbol of a shared interest, and at the same time something with a bit of a west coast feel to it.

Their interest in "birding" has continued to grow through the years as witnessed by the number of wood carvings, and Bateman paintings that decorate the Stanger home in Langley. So, when the suggestion was made in 2005 that it might be time to update and contemporize the look of the logo, there was never any thought given to abandoning a bird theme, but there was the question of what to do?

The idea of the hummingbird in the "A" of the DSA logo came from our multi-talented online manager Kathryn Slater, and she took it one step further suggesting that every staff member could select their own bird.

That idea took "flight" and today when visitors arrive at the DSA offices, they are greeted with a display of colourful personalized business cards at our front desk (you'll see people's individual birds by visiting the "Our People" section in our website).

Since we share a number of common media partners across our various offices, by early 2008, we had received numerous queries, wondering "when are you going to incorporate the bird theme into Calgary". Well now we have!

And if you're wondering why a hummingbird.....then you haven't met David. He's been described as "the little guy that bombs around all over the place and never seems to sit still for very long". Sounds like a perfect fit to us!
